Publication

Not A Typical Persian Girl is a multidisciplinary publication combining artistic work, archival material, and research on women’s resistance movements in Iran. The second edition expands the first with a broader visual archive and now spans 250 pages.

The publication offers a deep exploration of Iran’s modern history, tracing feminist movements from 1850 to today through historical context, contemporary realities, and personal narratives. It brings together photographs, video stills, and newly included archival images—among them documentation of the 1979 Islamic Revolution by photographer Christine Spengler.

Structured through thematic chapters, the book moves between history, everyday life, and the ongoing movement “Woman, Life, Freedom.” It also includes interviews with women and non-binary individuals in Iran and the diaspora, offering multiple perspectives on identity, resistance, and lived experience.

Published in English and Farsi, the book functions as both an artistic project and a research-based publication—bridging past and present, personal and political.
